Shouler & Son were delighted to once again support one of Melton Mowbray’s most celebrated events — the 18th British Pie Awards, held yesterday at St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray.

The prestigious awards form a key part of British Pie Week, a national celebration of Britain’s most iconic dish, and bring together pie makers from across the country to compete for the coveted titles.

Judging the Best Pork Pies in Britain

As long-standing supporters of the event, Shouler & Son were proud to sponsor Class 2 – Pork Pies.

Representing the firm on the judging panel were Ben Shouler and Hannah Johnson, who joined fellow judges in carefully assessing entries based on appearance, bake, filling, seasoning and overall quality.

With hundreds of pies entered across multiple categories, judging is a serious task — but a thoroughly enjoyable one — and highlights the exceptional craftsmanship and tradition behind British pie making.

Celebrating Melton Mowbray’s Food Heritage

Held in the historic surroundings of St Mary’s Church, the awards showcase why Melton Mowbray continues to be recognised as the Rural Capital of Food. The town is, of course, world-famous for the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie, making it the perfect home for this nationally renowned competition.

Events like the British Pie Awards celebrate the region’s rich food heritage while bringing together producers, retailers, and food lovers from across the UK.

Winners Announced on Friday

The winners of each class — including the overall Supreme Champion Pie — will be revealed at the official Awards Lunch on Friday, where the best pies in Britain will be recognised and celebrated.
