The dispersal sale of specialist dairy equipment looks set to attract the attention of the new, up-and-coming generation of specialist cheesemakers.

That’s the view of Shouler & Son’s rural specialists who have just announced the date for the dairy dispersal sale of Websters Stilton Dairy in Saxelbye, near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, following the retirement of the current owners.

An on-site viewing day will take place on Friday 21 October, coinciding with the start of the online, timed auction which will be live and run for five days from then until Tuesday 25 October.

There is an extensive range of cheesemaking equipment and associated paraphernalia for sale - including stainless steel bulk tanks, pasteurising machinery, chillers and maturing racks among the extensive range of other high quality items.

Shoulers advises that the sale is part of a wider, ‘time of life’ disposal sale by the owners who have been commercial cheesemakers and suppliers of award winning Stilton cheese to the overseas and domestic trade sector for two generations.

Separately, Shouler & Son was instructed as the sole selling agent to dispose of the property element of the dairy site earlier this year in which there was competitive interest.

Robert Bloomfield, Partner, Shouler & Son is leading the dispersal sale from the firm’s Melton Mowbray headquarters.

In commenting on the valuation process and forthcoming sale, he said, “This rural part of the East Midlands has a fine tradition for Stilton.

“Much of the equipment being offered for sale would suit other varieties of cheesemaking too.

“This dispersal sale offers for purchase a fine portfolio of equipment for a new start-up cheese business or, indeed, recent or more established artisan producers looking to upscale their existing business.”
